Melee V2: lighter, faster

The Melee V2 started from a simple idea: go faster, without ever giving up what gives the Melee its character, its responsive handling. At ENVE, the goal was to remove the choice between a light climbing bike and an aero race bike.

To get there, the team worked in the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS wind tunnel at Silverstone, with the rider on the bike. Speed does not come from the frame alone: rider position, legs, bottles, cages and wheels all affect the airflow.

The result is a claimed 17 watts saved compared with the Melee V1. The frame, fork and seatpost account for 11.4 watts, the SES Aero bottle cages for 2.6 watts and the handlebar for 3 watts. On the scales, a size 56 build can reach 6.8 kg with SRAM RED, right at the UCI limit.
