Pinion was founded in 2008 by former Porsche engineers Christoph Lermen and Michael Schmitz with the vision of developing “a bicycle gear system with the heart of a sports car.” The fully sealed gear system combines automotive and bicycle technology for maximum performance and reliability.

With the Pinion E-Drive System introduced in 2023, the company presented a world first: a compact motor-gearbox unit with an integrated electric motor and up to 12 electronically shifted gears.

Development, production, and sales are carried out at the company's headquarters in Denkendorf near Stuttgart. Over 100 employees ensure quality, precision, and durability – “Made in Germany.” Pinion supplies more than 100 bicycle manufacturers worldwide and is represented by over 600 dealers in Europe.

As part of the BRP Group, Pinion actively promotes internationalization and innovation in the field of e-mobility and powersports.
