Born to create speed
It all began in Grenchen, a quiet Swiss town where a BIG idea was born, an idea that would transform the world of cycling. No chasing trends, no compromises. Just one clear goal: to design the fastest, most precise racing bike ever made.
Swiss engineering was essential to realizing this vision: every line, every detail, every test was designed with an obsession for perfection. This is where passion meets precision, and where nothing is left to chance.
From the winding roads of the region to the roar of the Tour de France podium, BMC has always pushed the limits of performance on two wheels.
We never intended to follow the pack. We were born to create speed.
Where vision met Swiss engineering
The history of BMC dates back to 1986, with modest beginnings: assembling bicycles under license from Raleigh. But things quickly evolved. In 1994, the name BMC officially came to life. Still discreet at the time, but the ambition was there from day one.
The real turning point came in 2000, when Andy Rihs, president of the Phonak Group and the Phonak cycling team, entered the scene. Andy didn't just see bikes, he saw potential. Huge potential. His goal? To create the “Porsche of racing bikes.” From then on, BMC was no longer just making bikes: the brand was asserting a vision.
In 2002, we designed the Teammachine for the Phonak team. The following year, our bikes crossed the Swiss border to reach cyclists around the world. And by 2004, we were on the roads of the Tour de France with revolutionary models such as the Timemachine TT01 and the Promachine SLC01.
In 2005, we won our first stage victory in the Tour de France, a decisive moment that marked our arrival on the big stage.
But our adventure didn't stop on the road. In 2007, we launched the Fourstroke, redefining the standards of mountain biking. True to his belief in doing things properly, Andy built a state-of-the-art carbon production facility in Granges. That same drive to innovate led to the opening of the Impec Lab in 2010, a place where ideas go from sketch to reality faster than anywhere else in the industry.
For us, it has never been just about making bikes. It's about pushing boundaries, pursuing perfection, and reinventing what speed can truly mean.
