Cycling fitness tests are a way to determine your fitness level and track your progress over the years. There is a wide variety of tests: lab tests, field tests, short tests, long tests, maximal or submaximal effort tests… The FTP test is the most commonly used test among recreational cyclists to measure fitness. But does this test really tell the whole story about your fitness?


Niels Timmermans works at Wolf Performance as an exercise physiologist and coach. He holds a Master’s degree in Movement and Sports Sciences and is a certified Cycling Coach (Level A). After his studies, he gained expertise in cycling testing and training through internships in Belgium and abroad with various cycling teams and testing labs. In recent years, he has guided many competitive and recreational cyclists to achieve their sporting goals.
